“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” It’s a very familiar quote. Actually, numerous blogs have been posted about this quote. But I still chose to talk about this because this quotation inspires me many times in refuelling my perseverance tank.
Before I started blogging, I never thought it would be this hard. I knew that there would be tough times along the way, but you can actually feel its pangs when you’re already in its midst. There are “foes” that needed to be conquered and the toughest is the one whom I cannot escape from – MYSELF. I have to overcome all negative thoughts this foe is feeding in my brain. “ You’re not going to make it. You’re not good enough compared to many bloggers out there. Look, you’re already in your 8th month of blogging and you still have very low stats. You don’t even know how to fix some technical issues of your blog, how can you strive?” Honestly, at times I was downcast, disappointed and discouraged. Many times I’ve already considered quitting. But the warrior deep within insists and always says “ Never quit. Go, move forward. You can never accomplish anything by giving up.” Though the path I’m now in is the lowest but I have faith that it is heading uphill and I am determined to climb. Still a long way to go and the journey is not easy but I have to practice perseverance together with faith and strong will.
Everyday, I have tough times at the office and it seems normal and usual; the stress, the pressure that I must face: impatient customers, deadlines, boss’ demands. I need God’s grace to see me through each day. As an alien in a place with people of culture and upbringing different from mine, I need to master the art of adoption and flexibility. If I listen to my ego and pride, I might have lost this job long ago. There were times we know we’re right, but sometimes we have to adjust when the situation requires. Don’t get me wrong, of course only if it would not violate our principles in life and if not against our faith but for the sake of peace.
People who see my finished portraits and paintings didn’t know the struggles behind each of the artworks I’ve accomplished. They don’t know that the artist was tempted to stop the work. But like an athlete, I could not get the reward if I stopped along the process. The best reward I desire is not just the money nor any material payment but the satisfaction of my clients and models. For me, that’s the first and foremost reward, a priceless one.
In this life, tough times are inevitable. It’s a reality in life thus we need to master the ability of overcoming any difficulty and get going. Tough times will be present at times, as long as we live. Every victorious fighters went through these before they emerged a winner. And if they arrived triumphantly, we too can. If we give in to tough times, we cannot reach our dreams and achieve our goals. All through these seasons, God promises us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.””
