How to unleash your hidden creativity? If you are like me, who has the zeal to create but doubting your ability, I hope this will encourage you.
If you have great ideas in mind but your ideas have never been converted into reality, maybe because of lack of resources and support but more likely because you don’t believe that there is something in you, a special ability that we all have – creativity. Many thinks that the word “creative” is only for the chosen few, just for the “gifted” ones. I believe all of us have it but the biggest hindrance in releasing that creative power is fear. If you are still hesitant to express your creative power and obstructed by your trepidations, don’t worry, you are not alone. I’ve been at your shoes before. Many years ago, I didn’t even want to give it a try. I thought my creations won’t be appreciated, that it would be despised and ridiculed. But couldn’t resist the force deep within me that urged me to create , so I chose to conquer fears that had engulfed me for long time. Thus, here I am blogging, encouraging, though I am a late bloomer, though I just have simple ability and I’m not proficient in expressing my thoughts for my vocabulary is limited, I am not adept, BUT I chose to conquer all these negativities and started to unleash my creativity. Since I conditioned myself that I can do what they can, I’ve discovered that I am also capable of doing things I’d never thought I can. I finally emerged from my shell to show the world that I also have something to share. My passion is in painting, crafting, writing, song composing, gardening and simple cooking, and I thank God for giving me the courage to expose it, to also serve as encouragement to others. My dear, your ability may not be as “BIG” or as “Great” as those people who are able to make names but in your own way, you can create and contribute ideas to make this world a better place to live in. I hope and I pray that my blog will be a help to boosts your self-confidence that you can do it too, if you will get out of your slumber and be awakened to bring a spark to make your ideas a finished work of art. Start believing in yourself. It’s just a matter of mind-conditioning, of mind-setting. Let us make this our motto : If they can do it, I can do it too. If I can, you can!
Here are my two cents that I hope may encourage you to unleash your hidden creativity.
Unleash your hidden creativity by starting to believe that…
Being creative is natural – You are naturally creative. Just think about it, when you look at your fridge this morning and you see some left over from last night’s meal and from those left-over foods, you make a new recipe, a very scrumptious breakfast for the family – that’s creativity. Just simply putting make up on to make you look gorgeous, designing your fingernail polish, making different hairstyles and dressed stunningly are forms of arts and creativity. All of us were created by God with the natural ability to create, remember that we were created in His image ( Genesis 1:27 ). Our God is creative so we are creative too. We were bestowed of creative power so believe it then utilize it, practice it, let it flourish. If you think that creativity is just for some, you already hinder yourself to do something great and new. You already put a limit on your growth.

Creativity may be developed. As you let yourself fearlessly explore, you can discover something in you that you didn’t know you have. The ability that you already got naturally can be enhanced and can be developed if you never cease practicing it. It may be hard at first. You may encounter disappointments on your first produce. It may come out not as you have expected. Don’t stop there, don’t give up. If you really decided to improve, take each and every hardship as a challenge. Learn from each and every mistake. I suggest to keep a journal of your progress, the process and the stages of your first creation. Try to improve the flaws that you find and do your best to avoid it on your next ones. Along the way, as you continue your creative journey, the small abilities where you have started will be enhanced and bloom if you just persevere. The more you practice your creativity, the better the outputs will be.
To unleash your hidden creativity, you must get out of your comfort zone. Our comfort zone is when we stay on the bed of doubts in our ability, if we choose to believe we cannot do something different, something new that maybe breaking traditional ways thus, we don’t exert effort and never give it a try. Just try to step out from your comfort zone and you’ll be surprised that you can devise something new if you give it a shot. According to business dictionary, being creative is “Having mental characteristic that allows a person to think outside of the box, which results in innovative or different approaches to a particular task.” So start thinking outside your old mindset confinement.
To unleash your hidden creativity you must have a changed perspective – If you used to see old clothes as a prospect for dining table wipes and now that you have changed your perspective, you perceive it as an ideal material for a beautiful handmade bag, purse, quilted bed sheet, apron, place mat, pot holder and a lot more things that are useful. If you see cereal boxes as nuances then perceive it as a potential gift bag, wall décor or magazine organizer now. See things in a different angle, put your ideas together with self-confidence and expand the habit of looking beyond how you used to see things around and do not hesitate to do it.
You can unleash your hidden creativity if you conquer your fear. Fear and unbelief in your own abilities is your great enemy. Don’t be afraid to try. Refuse to believe your mind telling you “you are not creative”, ” you are not capable of doing something new”. And, don’t let the fear of rejection overcome your plans. In everything and anything we do under the sun, always expect that we cannot please everyone. We may always encounter critics and opposition but it doesn’t matter. We cannot discover our creative abilities if we let fear overcome our potentials and if we let other people dictate it. We are enjoying the benefits of many great inventions because their inventors did not let fear, rejection and criticism hinder them from putting their ideas into materialization, and so do we.
“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” —Henry Ford
To unleash your creativity, put your ideas into action. Any idea, no matter how great is useless and will remain just an idea unless you act on it and do the crucial steps for its realization. Once something popped up in your mind, write down the idea, plan on it, record the step by step process then finally, execute your plan and there you go.
