Insatiable Longings – A Poem for the Holy Week

One from my series of poems and scripture verses to ponder this Holy Week…

A piece of silver peacefully lie down on a corner begins to gather dust and loses its luster, a place where it would stay to be totally forgotten and unnoticed by its master. The gold was proud as it currently holds the throne on its master’s finger, but not so long for its master’s eyes stares at a brilliant diamond seated on a crystal box flickers and gleams.

Yes, no gems or precious stones can contain the insatiable thirst of the jewels’ master. His heart’s vessel was lacking and famished, it would never be filled up to its brim as its leakage was so deep within. He gets and gets and keeps and keeps but never satisfied; he gathers, he collects but still hungers and starves for the best find.

His desire for more and more of the riches and jewels is never ending, exploring the world to find the treasures to fill up the void and the space deep within him. Finally reached the end of his exploration and still nothing from his bulk of wealth and gems the kind that he considers the finest.

He has no idea, yes not at all about where he could find the Jewel that could exactly fit his longing. He could travel around the world but won’t come across or unearth the One he longed for; for it was his heart that’s closed to receive his quest’s only solution. Nothing could ever fill up the void in his unappeasable state; except to acknowledge that he needs the Free Gift from above that God offers.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.

1 Timothy 6:9 “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”

Ecclesiastes 5:10 “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.”

Luke 12:15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

The only way provided from above to answer humanity’s longing is the free Gift we can find in John 3:16

John 3:16 ” For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
